Clifton/Fruitvale Redevelopment
Mesa County spent most of 2006 working with the residents of the Clifton/Fruitvale areas to develop a Community Plan. This process involved more than 18 meetings, in six locations, with more than 300 citizens participating over a period of nine months. From those meetings a plan was developed that describes what the residents would like their community to become. This was the Planning Phase.
We are currently in the Implementation Phase and we have been busy! The workgroups that were formed at those community meetings in March have established priorities and are beginning to take action.
At the heart of the redevelopment efforts in the Clifton/ Fruitvale area is the discussion about governance options. The Governance Committee hosted the first of many community meetings to discuss governance options on August 30th. At that meeting participants voted on the top three options they wanted to further analyze. The options selected were incorporation, public improvement district, and a local improvement district. Also at the meeting residents volunteered for the work group to further analyze these options and bring back the detail to the next Community Meeting. The biggest project of the Economic Development Committee is the Main St. Project. Mesa County has hosted multiple public forums to request input from the residents of the Clifton/Fruitvale area about what the re-development of the Main St / F Road Corridoor should look like.
The Neighborhood Committee has been equally busy developing Neighborhood Tool Kits and hosting Neighborhood Night Out parties.
Mesa county continues to seek neighborhood and business leaders to step forward and help see this process through to completion. To find out how you can get involved, or to request to receive regular updates on the progress, please contact Janet Rowland at janet.rowland@mesacounty.us.
