CU School of Medicine
This week representatives from the University of Colorado Denver, School of Medicine came to Grand Junction to talk about plans to expand the medical school to include a branch campus in Grand Junction.
Students would begin their course work at the Denver campus and after two years would then move to Grand Junction. If funding is secured, Mesa County could see 24 students in 2011 followed by another 24 students in 2012, meaning that the first class to finish the course at the new Grand Junction branch would graduate in 2013.
One of the benefits to having this program in Mesa County is that 60% or more medical students remain in the communities where they receive their education. Considering Mesa County’s shortage of doctors this is great news!
Rotary Continues to Support Meth Task Force
For a second year in a row, the Grand Junction Rotary Club donated $30,000 to the Meth Task Force for the efforts of supporting drug endangered children. In 2007 Rotarian Reed Mitchell spearheaded the first Mascarade Ball for the sole purpose of raising money for drug endangered children. The Ball was such a success Rotary plans to make it a tradition. This shows, once again, that the residents of Mesa County are some of the most caring and giving people in the world.
