The Survey Says...
...that Mesa County is a desirable place to live, and residents are generally satisfied with most County services.
- Overall satisfaction levels in Mesa County are higher than in 2007, even though the ratings in most other communities have declined.
- Overall satisfaction with county services rated 11% above the national average (64% in Mesa County vs. 53% nation)
- People are happy with how quickly county staff responds to their requests (Mesa County also rated above the national average in this are).
- Satisfaction with the county’s efforts to keep residents informed and involved in local decision making rated well above the national average.
These results tell us we are making good decisions about where to place our resources, what to emphasize, and that we’re being open as an organization.

- Perceptions of safety rated significantly above the nation’s average, in both neighborhoods at night and in parks.
- Of the 36 county service areas assessed in both 2007 and 2009, 23 areas showed an improvement in ratings by citizens.
· Areas where residents’ opinions have significantly improved since 2007:
o Good place to raise a family
o Public involvement in county decision making
o Availability of recreational opportunities
o Value received for taxes and fees
o Ease of travel
o How the county is managing growth
o Good place to work
o Code enforcement efforts
o Condition of major roads
o Environmental health programs
o Quality of law enforcement
o Maintenance of local parks
o Appearance of the community
· Areas where Mesa County is doing significantly better than the regional or national average:
o Good place to raise a family
o Good place to retire
o Safety felt in neighborhood at night
o Number of walking and biking trails
o Quality of law enforcement
o How well county staff handles issues for residents
o Quality of county services
o Public transportation
o Ease of travel on county roads
Finally, the survey highlighted several areas where Mesa County should prioritize for improvements. Those include:
o County health clinics
o Services to protect children from abuse and neglect
o Conditions of major roads
o Efforts to educate the public about nutrition and health issues
o Economic assistance and self-sufficiency programs
o Code enforcement
o County planning for an d managing growth
